Hello to all parents of those entering the extreme sport of airsoft. I feel your angst just watching your son, or daughter, pick up an airsoft gun and go out to a friends house to play.
Let me assure you, airsoft is safest with your involvement. Here's a list of suggestions you can do to help. This list is only partial, and I'd like feedback on other good ideas as well:
- Get a gun bag--all airsoft guns and equipment belong in a covered carrier of some sort. Neighbors may not be understanding when these things are out.
- Check with your local law enforcement agency on local laws and for places to play airsoft.
- Most kids and adults who play airsoft look tough, but are really just big kids at heart.
- Help your son remember playing airsoft is just a game, not reality.
- Spend a few extra bucks, and go out with your son and play. If you are a Mom, spend time with the store owner or field owner. Show an interest, and they're more likely to remember in your kid.
- Single Moms - find responsible older kids or adults to work with your kid. Buy them a small gift and they'll jump through hoops for you to get your child acclimated to playing airsoft.
- Let airsoft be a reward for good behavior, or suspend privileges for bad behavior.
- Every parent wants their son or daughter to have a safe hobby. Airsoft is safer than some hobbies, but it is more dangerous than chess or checkers. The more parents participate, the safer it gets. You are the best and most important teacher your child will ever have.
At Steelhawk Airsoft, we come in contact with many parents and know your child's safety is important to you. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions.
